Vinnytsya: synergy in the triangle 'community-government-mass media'

Before the beginning of this event the journalists of local media recorded the syncs of organizers which compared the results of media monitoring of Vinnytsia region with other regions. They were also interested in the topic of introducing of SMS-charity, fraud in collecting of cash donations in Ukraine and successful examples of synergy in the triangle “community-government-mass media” that could be moved to Vinnitsa region.

The vision of how to organize effectively the cooperation of regional authorities, the media and CSOs was represented by Andriy Hyzhko, the first deputy head of Vinnytsia Oblast State Administration. However, at the end of the event the participants from NGOs complained the  government that it did not cooperate with them effectively using the instruments of volunteer  and for volunteers only as news opportunity to PR itself.

Natalia Bolhovska, Head of Vinnytsia Press Club made the emphasis on the role of mass media in her opening remarks.

Oleksandr Chekmyshev, Head of the monitoring projects of Association “Spilnyi Prostir”, Chairman of Equal Access Committee made a presentation of the results of media monitoring related to coverage of the theme of volunteerism and the best practices of synergy between government, media and the public. The representative of Vinnytsia broadcaster “Winter” commented that the content of  charity topic had been well represented not only in news programs, but even in cultural and educational ones, as well as in the specialized program “Bastions”.

 

Lesya Yaroshenko, the coordinator of partner information projects showed the television stories that demonstrated both successful and unsuccessful examples of public sector cooperation with the government and the media. Olesya Chaikovska, the project organizer, Deputy Director of Yuzhnynska School (Odessa region) told about innovative educational and volunteer practice (the children from school camps visited a photo exhibition about the charity, a series of photographs - Grand Prix of Photo Contest, the children who were weaving the camouflage net; after the volunteer offered to the children to try to weave by themselves; as a result - to attract the children to charity and concrete help to ATO) and spoke via Skype inclusion. The members received the case that can be used in any part of Ukraine.

At the invitation of the organizers of this round table Yuri Basyuk, the press officer of the 95th separate airborne brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hold a workshop on the rules of work for journalists and civil society activists in the ATO area. These tips will be represented on the website of Association “Spilnyi Prostir”/ Equal Access Committee and spread in social networks.

The discussion of the event took place very actively. The activists spoke about reactivity of mass media, violation of journalistic standards in coverage of the topics related to the charity for ATO soldiers. It was cited the examples of actions that had not received publicity in the media because the government representatives had not reported on time for their appointments. It was talked about the need to update the legal basis and procedures related to medical support and reintegration of new and large social groups generated by the war.

 

The roundtable allowed from the first-hand opportunity to hear and to fix a number of problems in cooperation between the community, government and media, that were firstly announced at the public event. The participants got the ready successful models of cooperation that could be applied in their regions. Directly under the round table it was established the cooperation between the Coordinator of IDPs and the head of organization, which continued to evacuate the people from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It was decided to fix the issues that hampered the development of charity sector in the region, as well as the proposals in the resolution and to send the document to the local authorities and the media.
