It is becoming absolutely clear that the Kremlin's invasion in Ukraine is just a matter of time. The scenario of Russia reacting to pleas by Ukrainian junta headed by murderer and criminal Viktor Yanukovych as well as his puppet local administrations and "pacifying" outraged Ukrainians with brutal force has been underway for a while already.
The prize for Vladimir Putin - just like in case with Georgia in 2008 - is however much bigger this time. Eastern Ukraine, although polluted by outdated industrial infrastructure and mostly populated by the submissive Russian-speaking poor, and - the long-time dream of the once imperial Russia - Odessa and Crimea are Putin's treasured dream.
It is therefore absolutely clear that Putin released his jailed opponent Mikhail Khodorkovskiy and the "blasphemous" Pussy Riot in order to concentrate on his favorite geopolitical toy - Eurasian Union with Ukraine, nevermind poor and devastated, as its member. Nevermind that Russia will collapse economically and demographically in 5-10 years. Together, we will die, as an old Russian proverb goes.
Will Europe want to deal with the torn-apart Ukraine, or, at least, with its western part, burning with rage, eager for revenge and deepening back to its post-WWII struggle against the totalitarian Soviets? It seems that it would not have much of a choice. A new Libya at its door will be the result of collaborating with Putin and appeasing him.
Will the USA go beyond imposing sanctions against Yanukovych and the most notorious crooks in his gang? Unlikely. Too close Ukraine to Russia, too jealous Putin to share this "big pie" with the Americans. Too precious the prize.
Putin, the biggest scarecrow of the world, knows that the West would not dare to start challenging what he thinks naturally belongs to him - Ukraine.
And who now cares about the UN?
And so, once again in its history, Ukraine is on its own face to face with the dark legions of Evil, this time - criminal Yanukovych, scared and mad, and his master Putin.
